TREKKING TOURS IN FANN MOUNTAINS

The Fann Mountains offer excellent treks of varying difficulty ranging from a few days to a week in length. Below you can find the most popular, however a number of other variations are possible.

THE WEST-EAST TRAVERSE

Numerous snow-capped 5000 metre peaks and the potential for brilliant trekking, through rocky valleys and across high passes. The trekking conditions on this trip are good, generally following clear, dry paths through rocky mountain terrain. The routes we follow have been used by local shepherds and their animals for generations. We will usually walk for between 6 and 7 hours each day, stopping for lunch after 3 or 4 hours, although some days may be longer. Many of the days will include between 600 and 1000 metres of ascent and similar amounts of descent.

Day 1: Arrival to Dushanbe. Sightseeing

Day 2: Dushanbe - 7 lakes, camp at 6th late

Day 3: Start trekking. Cross the Tovasang pass (3306m) down to Sarimat River

Day 4: Cross the Munora pass (3520 m) down to Archmaidan river

Day 5: Going through Akhmat pass (3400 m) down to Gazza village

Day 6: Crossing the Zurmech pass down to Artuch camp

Day 7: Walking from Artuch to Kuli Kalon lakes

Day 8: Kuli Kalon lakes through Alaudin pass (3860 m) to Alaudin lake

Day 9: Alaudin lake - Dushanbe

CHIMTARGA TRAVERSE

​

Fann Mountains are beautiful mountains, with summits above 5000 m, culminating at Chimtarga peak (5489 m). Accessed through the Tajikistan capital, Dushanbe, our 9-day trek makes a comprehensive tour of this rugged and picturesque landscape, where Tajik shepherds graze their flocks on remote upland pastures. Climbing to high viewpoints, including the dramatic Chimtarga Pass (4740m) and enjoying a succession of superb lakeside camping places, this is a truly memorable trek.

4 DAYS KULI KALON LAKES TREK

Kulikalon - The Big Lake in English, located at an altitude of 2800m, the second largest (after Iskanderkul) lake in the region. The lake is dual: Large Kulikalon and Small Kulikalon, which are connected by channels.

From Artuch camp to the Kulikalon Lakes, you’re sure to be lulled into a sense of wonder as the environment of the place mesmerizes you.

Trekking routes go from one mountain lake to another over some passes, always with great view on snow-capped mountains and going through different vegetation zones, making it a trekkers paradise with the potential to keep hikers occupied for weeks or longer. Beyond natural beauty, though, the region is the center of a fair bit of history as well. Originally a regional capital of the Sogdian Empire, the area around modern-day Penjikent is also home to the historical site of Sarazm (Tajikistan’s only UNESCO World Heritage site). In some villages you still can here the Sogdian language which Alexander the great herd when he arrived here.
