ISMAILI HERITAGE TOUR
For centuries Ismaili people of Pamirs have lived a life cut from the rest of the Ismaili community of the world. After Tajikistan gained independence the doors opened both for the Pamiri Ismailis and outside community to meet, share stories and more importantly they have been blessed to meet their Imam, His Highness the Aga Khan. The first Didar with Imam was held in 1995, where he vowed to help the development of the Pamirs and Tajikistan, and since then dozens of projects have been implemented by Aga Khan Development Programme to help the community.
Today the Ismaili community of Tajikistan which is mostly centered in Pamirs is living a better life and tourism is one of the priority sectors of the region and it's people. On this tour you will not only see the wonders of Pamirs but also see and learn about many AKDN projects implemented in Pamirs and Tajikistan, like Afghan - Tajik Bridge, The Afghan Market, University of Central Asia in Khorog and many others. Also you will learn about the unique culture of Ismaili people, experience their legendary hospitality and see how the Ismaili people of Pamirs preserved the culture and identity through centuries of isolation.
